Kilimanjaro Airport (Day 17: June 5)

We started our last day by eating breakfast at the Karatu hotel. After breakfast, we packed up and loaded the bus for our three hour journey to Arusha. Along the way, we stopped at Lion’s CafĂ© to purchase snacks and use the restroom. Once we arrived in Arusha, we went to the Karibu-Kili Fair, the largest tourism fair in East Africa. The fair was enormous and extremely lively, filled with lots of different stands and events to check out. The stands varied widely including ice cream, safari companies, hotels, jewelry, bouncy houses, and furniture. We walked around the fair for around 1 hour. Some of us got interviewed by local news reporters in Tanzania, some of us danced on stage alongside the fair performers, and others tried food samples. After the fair, we took the bus to lunch. We ate at the Heritage Cultural Center, which served us a blend of African and Indian food. The food included: white rice, naan, soup, chicken curry, beef, vegetables, fruits, and donuts. After lunch, we explored the gift shop at the Heritage Cultural Center. The shop was immense and was filled with lots of intricate souvenirs like: keychains, jewelry, paintings, drums, and wooden sculptures. All of the guys bought ancient swords (hopefully they make it through airport security!). Now we are on the way to the Kilimanjaro Airport and we can’t wait to see you all soon!! (Also to Jaz’s mom - Jaz says Happy Birthday!)
