Safari (Day 12: May 30)
Yesterday we started our day off early and meeting at the Banjika school at 7:00. After saying goodbye to our buddies, we started to embark on our two hour car ride, stopping at Lion Cafe for a quick break, before picking up our tour guide for the walking safari at Makuyuni. The tour guide was Dede, who was a “bush man”. As a Bush man, he carried around a spear and wore tree bark and grasses. After leaving the car with Dede and a few park rangers, we saw our first giraffe after walking for only 5 minutes. After getting a closer view, we not only saw the singular giraffe, but a whole family of giraffes surrounded by zebras and gazelles. It was by far the most amount of wildlife we have seen so far in Tanzania. We soon began walking back to the car to continue to lunch however, on the way we were amazed by a close up view of a huge Elephant in the clearing. Around 2:00 we had lunch at the ranger station while having a stunning view of the entire national park. At 3:30 we left the park and headed to the Pazuri Inn. We arrived at 5:00. Upon arrival, we got our rooms, and hopped in the chilly pool. By 7:00, we were at dinner and watching the Champions league final. Dinner consisted of chicken and Mac n’ cheese. The game was super exciting and ended with PSG winning by 1 in penalties.
